In every society there are people that disagree or are dissatisfied with what the government is doing. The government may think that things are going the way they should; achievements are made but they may not know that those things they regard as good things may not be seen as good things by an average person in the nation.
There are people that act against the government. They see the government as their enemy. They do everything within their powers to stop the activities of the government. They are called rebels and most of them are young people.
Young people rebel against the government, some times, for obvious reasons. They also rebel against the government for reasons best known to them. They stand as an opposing power ever ready to thwart the effort or plans of the government.
For example, recent developments in the Niger-Delta area in Nigeria in which a group of young men from the region that are referred to as militants abduct oil company workers due to claims that the oil companies in the area don’t mind about the development of the area show that rebels exist in Nigeria.
Unemployment is the major cause of rebellion in Nigeria. Many youths go to school, bag good degrees and come only to be greeted by unemployment. Such young people become angry with the government and resort to various ugly behaviors such as prostitution, armed robbery, cheating, rebellion, and so on.
Poverty is a very big problem to any society where it’s found. Young people become rebels in the country because they want to escape from poverty and so they think that one of the ways to escape is to attack the government.
The truth is that rebellion is not the way out of poverty and unemployment. The way out of unemployment and poverty is to join hands with the government to fight corruption because corruption is one of the major problems in Nigeria.
