Virtual Marriage Certificate

You live in Connecticut but you are not sure of how to obtain a marriage license. Well do not worry I do. Well below I have outlined the rules and regulations for applying for and obtaining a marriage license.

You must have a government issued identification card. Such as your drivers license, visa, passport etc. You will need to bring your social security card if you have one.

You do not have to be a resident of Connecticut to apply and obtain a marriage license.

You must obtain a premarital certificate from your state health department. The certificate will go to the laboratory with your blood tests. You should contact your local clerk for more information.

Everyone getting married in the state of Connecticut must have a test for syphilis. Also any woman under the age of 50 must have a test for rubella.

You should make your medical appointment for all of your tests at least 2 months before you plan to wed. This way it allows enough time to receive all of your laboratory reports back.

For the marriage license, give the physician your complete name without abbreviations or initials as it appears on your birth certificate unless it has been legally changed.

The physician will notify you when the results are received. You must return to the office and sign the Premarital Certificate in the physician's presence and at that time the results will be explained to you. When you receive your certificate you will give it to the county clerk when applying for your marriage license.

Their are no waiting periods to receive your marriage license.

The fee for the marriage license is $35.00 cash.

All ordained or licensed clergymen belonging to this state or any other state may perform marriages as long as they continue in the work of the ministry.

The license is valid for 65 days and only to be used in the state of Connecticut.

These are the latest laws and regulations for obtaining a marriage license in the state of Connecticut. Some times the laws change rapidly so we suggest calling your local clerk and confirming the information above.
